The Atlanta Mentors is a volunteer run program offering a structured six (6)-month mentorship for members of the BDSM community. This mentorship program is hands-on and combines small group classes and one on one learning. We welcome Mentors, Apprentices, and Presenters on both sides of the slash, including switches. Mentors role: A mentor is a person who is experienced or knowledgeable in particular area(s) and chooses to share that with others whether one-on-one or in a group setting. Being a Mentor is not a relationship, a power exchange, or role-playing. Both parties are equals; one is not Dominant and the other submissive. A Mentor engages in teaching and sharing experience. There is no fee to be a Mentor.
The time commitment for a Mentor is to attend the orientation and introduce of yourself and your background. Mentor up to three (3) apprentices in a one on one mentoring relationship.
Apprentice’s Role: Apprentices are required to attend all six (6) training weekends. These are full eight (8) hr days (Saturday & Sunday). Homework is assigned and expected to be completed between program meeting dates. Four (4) hours of community volunteer hours are required. You and your Mentors can meet as many times as is needed to achieve your common goal. This may include homework assigned by your Mentor. Mandatory Dungeon Monitor, CPR, and First Aid training is required.
One on One Mentoring: Each Mentor/Apprentice pairing can meet as many times as you like during mentoring period. If you choose to extend that relationship after the program ends, you are encouraged to do so. We ask that you meet at least once face to face. After that, Skype/phone/and email are accepted forms of communication. It is the Apprentices’ responsibility to contact the Mentor and pursue a meeting. When the Apprentice demonstrates the skills they requested to learn, the mentorship can be signed off on as successful. If you meet off-site or share a meal, you will not be expected to pick up the tab for the other person.
How do I apply? Fill out the appropriate application. You will receive an auto-generated email when it’s received. Once it’s reviewed and determined you are a good candidate for the program, Mentors will receive an email and Apprentices will be invited to pay your Apprentice non-refundable registration donation securing your spot in the next class.
